On April 25th, Bikes and Places gathered with Sander de la Rambelje from the Dutch Consulate in Boston to organize a community learning event at the Goddard House for Assisted Living. We traveled through history, shared stories about tulips and windmills, the resistance during WW2, and how the values such as tolerance and individual freedom, born in the 17th Century Amsterdam, influenced the modern world. Thank you Goddard Enriched Life Director, Erica Curio, for inviting us. We will definitely come back.
At the end of March, our friends Tom & Paul from City Innovation Exchange Lab (CITIXL) teamed up with Wentworth Institute of Technology to organize the Reclaiming Space Boston challenge. Students, architects, urban designers, entrepreneurs and community leaders gathered together to develop simple, short-term solutions for blighted city properties in the Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods. An experiment that shows once again the power of the bottom-up approach for building more livable, resilient and inclusive communities. View event page.
